Children's Division (need your input please)

As some of you may know the Children's Division has been around for quite some time. Focusing on a different area of HAIN, but still helping families and children in need.
For awhile now this area of HAIN has set stagnate. I am hoping with a new year around the corner that I can bring some focus back to this area. I have been brainstorming things to see what we can do to get this division active again. I would love to hear from other volunteers on this as well. We have pretty much kept the same drives for this division (Baby Shower, Support Bags, School Supplies, and the Winter Warm Up) I am looking into adding 1-2 more things to this to help cover the months that we don't have anything planned. Just a few questions below, if you could take a moment and share your thoughts it would be appreciated.

For the current drives we do for this division, do you have places in your area that you can donate to, to help save on shipping?
I'm not sure how many of you follow HAIN on facebook, but would creating an event on there also be helpful to you?
Do you have homeless shelters, women's shelters in your area?
Would doing a break down of items appeal more to you? Examples: Collecting certain items per week, like pencils one week, paper the next etc.

My hope is that things will pick up in this area next year. I know for some it can be overwhelming to try and help multiple areas of HAIN, but I am just trying to get this area to appeal to everyone. We have had some interested in helping but they are not crafty so this division would be perfect for that. People are still able to contribute even if they cannot knit, crochet or sew. Any questions or comments are welcome. You can ask them here or message me. I am REALLY looking forward to getting this area active once again, and with some ideas in mind I hope it helps, but it will take a group effort to make this possible.

For the current drives we do for this division, do you have places in your area that you can donate to, to help save on shipping?  Yes, we have a couple of groups that we donate to through church.  There's also a big children's hospital here that may accept things.

I'm not sure how many of you follow HAIN on facebook, but would creating an event on there also be helpful to you?  This would probably help.  I know I'm not the only one that spends waaaaaayyy too much time in FB.

Do you have homeless shelters, women's shelters in your area? I think we do and I'm sure they do in Philly.

Would doing a break down of items appeal more to you? Examples: Collecting certain items per week, like pencils one week, paper the next etc.

Anything that would help me stay in focus, so this may help.  I have a tendency to flit from one project to another and so things seem like they never get finished and out of here.

I do have a question...what age group does the Children's Div cover.  I'm never sure what kinds of things are needed for that group.

Thanks Dawn for answering. I struggle too with keeping focused.Time can be an issue too, but mostly I just struggle with being organized lol. Working on it.
This division helps infant through school aged children.

I like the idea of giving us something to do/collect for - event wise (and we are notified in Facebook or in HAIN proper). I've tended to do well when I know what I'm doing or where it is going.

I have some places to donate to - on my own - but also like the idea of a spreadsheet or suggestions here in HAIN. It would be nice to donate with HAIN tags - and are there some for the Children's Division?

Also, I've been working on some non-preemie things but didn't know how to apply them to HAIN. Hats for homeless teens, baby quilts for maternity homes, red baby hats for the American Heart Association.

The Children's Division is something I'd like to participate in but haven't been clear on how I could with my crocheting and quilting.

The non-baby things you are talking about Julia would be perfect for the Children's Division. I had considered something for like homeless shelters/womens shelters. I just wasnt sure if others had something similar in their areas that they could donate to for children. Here we have a women's shelter that takes in abused women and their children and they are always in need of items. It would be easy for me to donate there, but maybe not so much for others especially if they preferred not to ship items. But if volunteers have places similar in their area, it could work out great and definitely be something we could add to the Children's Division. We are starting to have more and more places like these pop up in my area, and it could be a great way to get this division out there and serving a bit more. This division still helps children of all ages, just in different areas. The neonatal part of HAIN typically just takes care of individual requests and hospitals. The Children's Division would be more aimed at pregnancy centers, shelters, schools. Still helping children, but more so with every day kind of things that people need, rather than burial items.

Hello, I am new here, but wanted to comment. I am currently making blankets, booties and mitts for my local hospitals here in Medford, Oregon. I am also knitting hats and cowls for the Veterans Domiciliery in White City. Am doing this to save on shipping costs.

Pediatric wards at hospitals would love books, quilts, blankets, afghans, toys etc...as well
