Boys Outfits

Cheryl Chow

I don't know about you, but I often have a tough time finding patterns to make cute outfits for boys. Browsing through Bev's Country Cottage website one day I came across this cute Sweater and Diaper set. Knitting a hat to go with this two piece outfit makes a really nice set for a grieving family.

Here's the basic knitting pattern for the hat. I used Patons Beehive Baby Sport yarn for the hat pictured but any sport yarn would work.

For the hat (knit in the round):

CO 72 sts with 3mm needles and blue yarn

K1, P1 for 8 rows

Change to 3.5mm needles and white

Knit until hat measures 3”

K7, k2tog repeat

K6, k2tog repeat

etc. until 8sts left.

Thread yarn through. Weave in ends.

If you've never looked through Bev's website I hightly recommend it. There are so many patterns that I want to knit, crochet, and sew that my printer does overtime when I visit!

So cute, I have trouble getting myself to make boy things....I love pink. I will only allow myself to make so many pink things at a time, then I must make some blue(boy) things. Otherwise, I would only do pink and lavender things and that isn't fair. I do more cocoons than sweater type things, so one way I compensate is to make white and then just use pink, lavender, mint green or blue ribbons on them. It also makes it easier to fulfill gender specific requests.

I am feeling very overwhelmed right now, had to leave retirement behind and go back to work, and I'm having trouble finding time to take part in HAIN. I miss it. Sorry for the long comment.

Nice set.  Is the sweater a slip over the head or open in the back?

The trouble I have with most boy outfit patterns is finding a way to make it more "open" to make it easier for the baby to be dressed in it.  I've heard it's easier for the staff to lay the baby in the clothes rather than trying to dress them since they are so fragile.  This is easy to do with a gown by leaving it open in the back.  For boys the kimono style shirt works in this manner, but their little legs stick out from the diaper covers.

Anyone have a pattern for little shorts/pants that work like the diaper covers?
